Our mission statement. These three words are behind everything we do at Puritan, and everything we’ve done for the past 100 years. It’s our tradition, and as a third generation family-owned business we take family traditions seriously.
Our grandfather Abraham Penn opened Puritan’s first doors in 1919, 100 years ago. He had two founding principles, service to the customer, and service to the community. This dedication of service was passed down to the second generation, his sons Milton and Howard Penn who worked in the store from a young age. Today, Richard and James Penn, the third generation, manage the company with the belief that “earn the relationship” isn’t just our mission, it’s our passion.
To us, earning the relationship means we don’t take your business for granted. From the minute you walk through the door, it’s our mission to make you feel welcomed, get to know you, and to give you exceptional service that is often lost in today’s large retail stores. We believe shopping for clothing is a very personal experience. As we get to know you and your preferences, we can help you find the clothing, accessories and gifts that fit your lifestyle.
What do we mean when we say “exceptional service”? At Puritan we greet our customers by name. We offer complimentary alterations through our in-house tailor shop so your clothing fits properly. If we don’t have your size in-stock, we’ll do whatever it takes to get it for you. And complimentary gift wrapping has been a long standing Puritan tradition.
“Shopping at Puritan is like shopping with my girlfriends! Mimi knows exactly what I like and always gives me her honest opinion. I trust her because I know she cares.”
Immerse yourself in branded concept shops and other amenities at our flagship store in Hyannis. Dine, dress, and decompress under one roof. Within the store you'll find entrances to Solstice Day Spa, the Naked Oyster, and Bagels and Beyond.
Since the very beginning, giving back to our community has been an important part of the Puritan fabric. Throughout the year we work with many local organizations to host benefit shopping parties where we donate a portion of the sales to Cape Cod non-profits. It’s an opportunity to come together, socialize and shop all for a great cause.
In honor of our founder, Abraham Penn’s dedication to service, Puritan established the Abraham Penn Community Award in 1999. Each year we recognize an individual in our Cape Cod community who exemplifies service to the customer and service to the community, nominated by the winners’ local Chamber of Commerce.
In 2019 Puritan was proud to celebrate its 100th Anniversary. Throughout the last century, a lot has changed. We’ve renovated our stores, continuously updated our merchandise to the latest trends, and discovered new ways to communicate and service our customers. But over 100 years, our dedication to service, relationships, and experience has never wavered. It’s part of our DNA and will forever be a part of our Puritan tradition.
